ABOUT SEARLE LEARNING
SEARLE LEARNING is a new learning platform designed to help students from pre-school, through kindergarten and beyond. Initially we are creating interactive literacy and numeracy videos and learning songs, with broader content coming soon!
SEARLE LEARNING is primarily for students and their parents/carers to interact with, but we also offer useful information for parents around supporting a child’s learning in the early years, as well as teacher resources and the SEARLE LEARNING Teacher Talk podcast.
SEARLE LEARNING has been created and is overseen by REAL primary school teacher Gerard Searle (AKA Mr Searle). Gerard has a background in the performing arts and has been working in Education for the past ten years. SEARLE LEARNING is the perfect combination of his passion for education and his skills as a creative performer. Gerard is dedicated to teaching through ‘creative pedagogies’ that is, teaching literacy and numeracy in creative ways, since completing his Masters in Education, where he realised how he was able to use his creative skills to help students learn.
Education has changed and so has the task of the teacher. We know that students learn in different ways, and that each student is an individual with individual needs. What remains the same is that teachers face ever increasingly complex needs yet are not always supported to provide the individualised attention that is required. This is not the fault of teachers or schools but rather an outdated construct of education which is hard to change.
SEARLE LEARNING SEEKS TO HELP A LITTLE IN THIS SPACE
SEARLE LEARNING videos provide an opportunity for all students to experience one-on-one style learning time with a real teacher.
Where the learning and success criteria are made clear to them in language they understand. Where they can listen and practice learning concepts that they have experienced in the classroom but perhaps have not had the opportunity to consolidate by practicing a second or third time. Sometimes it’s the fourth go when the penny drops!
SEARLE LEARNING, while complimentary to any homework provided by a school, does not replace this. Our videos, music and activities can be used as entertainment, ’downtime’ or ‘screen time’. Think of it as hiding the veggies within a delicious meal!!!
Remember, there are multiple pathways to learning, SEARLE LEARNING is simply providing another opportunity to 'get it'!
